First Ascent Climbing in Greenland...
"In August 2024 myself and 3 friend undertook a combined packrafting and climbing expedition to the southern fjords of Greenland. All 4 of us came from a high level climbing background, but with virtually no paddling knowledge whatsoever. So in preparation for the trip we asked Jas from Tirio to bring us up to speed with the essentials. We had a good chat on the phone where he was super friendly and we got a date organised for a training course.
He provided a bespoke 2 day course tailored to our very specific and unconventional needs. We talked through the likely hazards that we would face, safety kit and decision points. Then we headed onto the water where he showed us how the rafts worked, we then spent a lot of time perfecting the emergency procedures should a boat capsize. All this was done in an informative way while still being lots of fun. We emulated the heavy loads that we would be carrying in the rafts to see if they would float if we capsized and to how to get them back into the rafts after. We practiced paddling across choppy water which proved to be absolutely essential, as we used these skills a lot once in Greenland..."

"How to read the sea state from the shore and making good decisions from that was one of the most important bits of advice he gave us. During the trip we had a few points where we had to make some serious decisions about crossing fjords under strengthening winds and we always had Jas’s words in our mind when going through that process. After the course he was really happy to answer any questions we had about kit on the lead up to the trip.
