How Tirio First Aid Courses Meet the Requirements of HSE (GEIS 3 – Selecting a First Aid Training Provider – An Employer’s Guide).

At Tirio prides we pride ourselves on delivering engaging and dynamic training that meets the need of our clients, we also ensure that in doing so we comply with the stringent requirements set down by HSE. Below we have listed all the answers to the HSE Employer’s Checklist (Click Here) these clearly detail how our first aid courses meet the requirements:

Trainers/assessors

- Do the trainers/assessors have a current FAW certificate or qualify for an exemption? 

​

Yes, all instructors and assessors shall hold a minimum in date First Aid at Work Certificate or an in date higher first aid / medical award i.e. FREC3 or a valid HCPC Registration or are registered with the General Medical Council.

​

- Do the trainers/assessors have an appropriate training/ assessing qualification? 

​

Yes, all instructors hold a minimum qualification in a training or delivery related topic at NVQ level 3 or SVQ level 6 or equivalent. All assessors hold a minimum qualification in an assessment related topic at NVQ level 3 or SVQ level 6 or equivalent such as D32/33.

Quality assurance

- Is there a documented quality assurance plan designating an individual to take responsibility for quality assurance, including assessment of the performance of trainers/ assessors at least annually? 

​

Yes, Mrs Marianne Taylor is the Designated Person and Quality Assurance Lead.

Tirio has a full Quality Assurance plan that involves quality audit of all trainers at least annually. 

​

- Does the designated person have a current FAW certificate or qualify for an exemption? 

​

Yes, the Designated Person currently holds an in date First Aid at Work Certificate.

​

- Does the designated person have an assessing/verifying qualification?

​

Yes, the Designated Person is an experienced and qualified teacher who holds a PGCE and a Level 4 Award in Internal Quality Assurance.

​

- Is there a documented course evaluation procedure? 

​

Yes, all courses are evaluated in accordance with the Tirio Quality Plan, this involves candidate feedback, course marking records and IQA at least annually. 

​

- Is there a documented complaints procedure? 

​

Yes, there are complaints and appeals procedures that are communicated to candidates on all courses.

​

Teaching currently accepted first-aid practice

- Is FAW/EFAW taught in accordance with current guidelines on adult basic life support published by the Resuscitation Council (UK), and for other aspects of first aid, in accordance with current guidelines published by the Voluntary Aid Societies or other published guidelines that are supported by a responsible body of medical opinion? 

 

Yes, all Tirio first aid courses are taught to a detailed and current syllabus, which clearly specifies that all topics are taught to the above references.

Training syllabus

- Does the course content adequately meet the needs of your workplace as indicated by your first aid needs assessment?

 

Our courses can clearly meet your first aid needs assessment. Tirio offer a range of modules that can be added to core EFAW or FAW elements, these include paediatric, outdoor working, adventure sports, expedition and industrial settings. Ask us for details.

- For FAW, does the syllabus include the topics listed in Appendix 1 and does the course include at least 18 training and assessment contact hours, over three days? 

 

Yes.

​

- For FAW re-qualification, does the syllabus include the topics listed in Appendix 1 and does the course last at least 12 training and assessment contact hours, over two days? 

​

Yes.

​

- For EFAW and for EFAW re-qualification, does the syllabus include the topics listed in Appendix 2 and does the course last at least six training and assessment contact hours, over one day? 

 

Yes.

Certificates

- Do the certificates issued to students assessed as competent contain the name of the training organisation, the title of the qualification (eg FAW or EFAW), reference to the H&S (First Aid) Regulations 1981, the date of issue and confirmation the certificate is valid for three years? (If training is neither FAW nor EFAW the certificate should also list the learning outcomes of the syllabus on which candidates have been assessed.) 

​

Yes, Tirio certificates clearly state all learning outcomes, the training organisation, the title of the qualification, the course dates, date of issue, certificate expiry date (3 years), candidate’s name and refer to the H&S (First Aid) Regs 1981 where appropriate.
