About Tirio

Experience

Tirio [ Welsh. v. to ground ]

We are a family business based in the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, with a backyard like this the outdoors is naturally our passion!

We know these days that life is hectic and time is precious. Planning and having an adventure can be a daunting prospect... We want to enable your adventures, now and in the future, by developing your skills and experiences. At the same time you'll have some time to 'ground' yourself; press nature's 'reset button', by immersing yourself in our stunning surroundings whilst enjoying a variety of experiences.

Based above the beautiful village of Betws-y-Coed, step away from the tourist trail. Find  your adventure by learning a traditional skill in our tranquil oak woodland site or combing the wild living skills with the 'ultra-modern' methods on a pioneering journey through forests and lakes in the uplands of Snowdonia with one of our packraft adventures.

We're proud to be a part of and actively promote the growing "Leave no Trace" philosophy here in the UK.

From climbing to canoeing;  mountains to the sea, Jason has been immersed in the outdoors his whole life. His early passion for climbing, outdoor adventure and travel has never left him and it continues to drive his life, his love of travel and his career choices to this day.

After a stint exploring and climbing across several continents, his skills led him to become a full time Mountain Rescue Leader and Team Medic for many years followed by several operational roles as an Officer in the British Military.

When Marianne and a young family called him back home to North Wales he was able to dedicate more time not only to them, but also to his other great passions - canoeing and wilderness living skills. A keen and experienced Open Canoe Leader and Packrafter, he's usually to be found on the water; but, if for some reason he's not there, he'll be in the woods - his second home - literally! He's firmly grounded in traditional outdoor skills but has enhanced those centuries' old techniques by using modern materials and technology to create bang up to date methods which enhance any outdoor living experience. Of course he's willing to share them with anyone who's willing to learn.

Mum's the word...

Tirio - we're a family

Jason, Marianne, Tom & Lily... with the mountains of Snowdonia as their backyard, the Taylors have learned the hard way how to overcome the niggles of wild camping, packrafting and canoeing as a family, they've taken the knocks and earned the t-shirts! (Check out the Blog page!) Whatever your walk of life their aim is to share the things they've learned with you, to help you avoid the pitfalls and develop your skills and confidence to enable a personal adventure you'll look back on with pleasure long after it's over.

"We don't believe adventure has to be gruelling and enduring! We've always believed that the outdoors and the wilds should be a place of enjoyment! We can give you those skills and, with a modern slant, make your next adventure safe, fun and amazing!"

All our activities have been mum, dad and kid 'tested', so we hope that this will encourage anyone to have a go and do the same, we really can make it that easy!

(P.S You can find posts from our very own @wildernesslily on Instagram (where she attracts more famous followers than her dad much to his delight and frustration!)

Equally enthusiastic about the outdoors, Marianne keeps Jason's plans firmly on solid family ground - she's the sense checker, the child-proofer, the comfort-monitor.

A primary school teacher by profession, she truly believes that, given the right support, children and families thrive in the outdoors; Tom and Lily are living proof of that. Having being born and brought up in the area, Marianne has lots of interesting facts and information about the places you'll visit as well as some funny childhood tales which she'll tell you if pressed! A real people-person, she tunes in and responds quickly to people's moods and will call for a hot chocolate stop just before everyone realises they need one. Her gentle humour, sense of fun and encouragement are the perfect match for Jason's practical nature and they make for enjoyable experiences for everyone.
